The University of Basrah organised a workshop on the mangrove cultivation project on the Iraqi coast. Ayman Abdul Latif Al-Rubaie gave a lecture entitled "The Experience of Cultivating Mangrove Trees (Mangroves)," where they represent a group of unique and typical halophytic plants, which represent a special type of tree that grows in tropical and semi-tropical areas, between tidal and tilted water systems or water waves. plants and call for Manash's interest in the subject. My project, with the help of some scientific institutions in Mongolia, has planted mangroves in some areas of Iraq as part of an experiment that is the first of its kind in the country.

The scientific team from the Centre for Marine Sciences at the University of Basrah, headed by Dr. Ayman Abdel Latif, Head of the Department of Sediments and Marine Bottoms, and researcher Jihad Makki, on a scientific trip to Khor Abdullah, the site of the Great Port of FAW, the western breakwater, to plant seedlings of mangrove plants within an experiment that is the first of its kind in Iraq. Through it, 80 mangrove seedlings were planted, and agriculture aims to develop the marine environment and develop fish and shrimp wealth because of the important effects of this plant in improving the environment as well as protecting the Iraqi coast from erosion by water currents.

The College of Science at the University of Basrah organised an electronic panel discussion entitled "Managing Natural Reserves Using GIS Technologies," using Al-Safia Reserve as a model. The lecture aimed to study some of the physical and chemical properties of the water and sediments of the study stations and the use of remote sensing techniques and geographic information systems in developing a database that contributes to the study and monitoring of nature reserves, thus assessing the status of the Safia Reserve and the possibility of its sustainability based on the current environmental situation. The lecture included an introduction to the concept of natural reserves, their importance, types, specifications, and conditions for areas eligible to be protected areas. The study highlighted the Al-Hawizeh Marsh as one of the most important sites recently added to the World Heritage List as a nature reserve.

Symposium


The University of Basrah organises a workshop on "The Role of the International Judiciary in Protecting the Environment." The College of Education at the University of Basra organised a workshop on the role of the international judiciary in protecting the environment. The workshop aimed to define the definition of the environment and what crimes are committed against it and their types; to know the agreements, principles, and agreements that were concluded regarding the reduction of environmental pollutants; and to develop an international vision for an international organisation or court that is specialised in environmental crimes. The workshop was attended by the lecturer, Dr. Ramez Mahdi Mahmoud Ashour. The professor of public law in Palestinian universities presented the importance of national and international action to address environmental pollution issues locally and internationally and the importance of developing national and international legislation to reduce environmental crimes. The doctor also demonstrated the importance of working toward the establishment of an international court specialised in dealing with environmental issues and serious environmental disasters that threaten international environmental security.

Workshop


The College of Science organised a workshop on "Environmental Reality and Ambition," presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nayyef Mohsen Azeez, a lecturer in the Department of Ecology, who participated in a lecture on World Environment Day entitled "Environmental reality and ambition." In cooperation with the Doboz organisation (NGOs), the sustainable development goals and how to achieve them were reviewed based on our current reality and what we aspire to from a clean environment free of pollutants and rich in biodiversity as a guarantee for us and our generations.

Dr. Ali Basil Mahmoud, a researcher from the faculty of Agriculture at Basrah University, published scientific research on the impact of climate changes and the ecosystem on the proliferation of jellyfish in Shatt Al-Basrah channel in Marine Science journal issued by Diponegoro University in Indonesia. The magazine is concerned with publishing research and studies related to seas, oceans, and beaches around the world, and it is an internationally refereed journal subject to international standards of specialized international journals.

The research aims to explain the phenomenon of growth and excessive proliferation of jellyfish in Shatt Al-Arab canal region, west of Basrah, and to demonstrate its relationship with global climate changes for the period between October of 2018 to March of 2019.
