 The University of Basrah operates an air pollution monitoring station at the College of Science. This station is regarded as one of the most important programs for monitoring the atmosphere in the Basrah Governorate. Because Basrah province is widely regarded as one of the most important oil reservoir cities, the exhaled gases from oil refining leftovers are the major source of air pollution.
