University of Basrah policy on ethical sourcing of food and supplies
-Iraq announced its adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals since 2016, which should be fully achieved in 2030, and before that, Iraq announced, in its constitution, which was voted on in 2005, a set of rights and freedoms that citizens enjoy considering the enforcement of the highest law in Iraq. Among the most important of these rights is the citizen's right to work and social security which is considered a high constitutional value that stands alongside other constitutional values such as social justice, freedom, and democracy. The constitution stipulates important principles that will achieve and promote the development of one of the most important goals of sustainable development, which is the twelfth goal that is concerned with responsible consumption and production, and an important principle stems from this goal, which is that the sources of food and other supplies apply ethical standards, and this was confirmed by the following University of Basrah policy:

- The University of Basrah is subject to strict laws, instructions, and controls in determining the sources of consumables at the university and several committees are formed for the purpose of determining whether the materials supplied to the university conform to the required specifications. The University of Basra has also added its own conditions on certain materials for the purpose of supporting its own policy on ethical sources of food and supplies, as well as:

Rights and safety of workers within the projects of the University of Basrah
- All contracts of the University of Basrah include clauses to ensure the safety of workers and consumers. The video below shows the student club in the College of Business and Economics and contracting with an external supplier (Abu Hassan Restaurant) for the purpose of serving food to students.

Construction Projects of the University of Basrah
- The Department of Construction and Engineering Projects at the University is responsible for preparing for all construction projects of the University of Basrah and during the past two years there are many completed projects that have been done with the help of external companies for completion and for each project there is a contract that includes all the conditions for the quality and quantity of materials used. Most of the construction projects at the university are followed up by the Departmentof Engineering Projects and the Consulting Office in the College of Engineering at the University of Basrah. - The University of Basrah has completed the implementation of the project of building and equipping internal departments / Section 9 to provide university housing with the help of an external construction company, as well as furniture and appliances with the help of external suppliers with the best specifications in the Iraqi market.

University of Basrah owns the Food Research and Consumer Protection Laboratory
Some of the devices in the laboratory used to detect the quality of products supplied to the University of Basrah.
1. Lacto-Scan milk analyzer
- It is one of the most important devices that work with ultrasound waves in the detection of milk components of proteins, sugars, and total solids. As well as to find out the adulteration of milk by relying on the measurement of the main components of milk.
2. HPLC Device
-Increasingly, food analysis methods are built around high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), which has proven to be an ideal technique for detecting and measuring most of the food and food analyzes where the device is used in estimating food additives from chemicals and is one of the most important devices in the field of food quality control.
3. Gas Chromatography - Mass Spectrometer GC- MS
- Gas chromatography is an effective way to separate and detect volatile organic compounds from different inorganic compounds. It is used in the detection of antibiotics, pesticides and toxins in food and has thousands of applications in the field of food quality.
University of Basrah policy on Measuring the amount of waste that is sent to the landfill for the purpose of disposal and recycling
-Iraq joined Basel Convention of 1989 on Waste Disposal. Moreover, Iraq enacted instructions for the disposal of hazardous waste No. 3 of 2015. Accordingly, the University of Basrah has a policy to measure the amount of waste and dispose of it in a safe manner. This policy aims to set a standard to know the amount of waste produced by the university and how to control its effects by dealing with it safely, either by recycling or by disposing of it in a manner appropriate to the environment.
