During 2019-2020, in the University of Basrah, 872 out of 1738 Daily wages workers were changed to contracts subsidized by the government to preserve their rights and increase their salaries.
7500 food baskets was prepared from the donations of staff members and distributed by Food banks of University of Basrah.
Students who have to pay tuition fees, which are 20% asked for discount so the tuition fee for them has been reduced by 25% .In the academic year 2019-2020, the University of Basrah imposed a human rights curriculum includes fighting poverty and living in dignity. About 15000 students each year were involved. Poor and Hunger subject were added to Educational Psychology course to emphasis them to think about this phenomena psychologically.
Most Colleges used to create a Student Solidarity Fund (SSF) which financially supported by donations of the University staff to support student how are below the poverty line. In addition

During 2018-2019, the University of Basrah employed 1738 person who is financially destitute and those who do not have a major.
In the academic year 2018-2019, the University of Basrah imposed a human rights curriculum for all first-stage students for all Colleges, which includes fighting poverty and living in dignity.
Thousands of food baskets were distributed from the Colleges to the poor people in Basrah province during 2018-2019.
