The University of Basrah adopts a strict system for all campus sites which aims to reduce the use of paper and plastics
Paper Usage Reduction
1_ In all its works, the University of Basrah uses the paper on both sides manner and reusing the paper that has been used on one side to use the other side. Furthermore, all waste paper is collected for later reuse.
Plastic Usage Reduction
2_ The University of Basra directs all its faculties to replace all disposable plastic products with environmentally friendly and biodegradable ones to reduce the damage resulting from the use of plastic materials, as well as launching awareness campaigns about the need to adhere to this to preserve the safety of the consumer and the surrounding environment.

3_ Most of the faculties in campus use paper envelopes instead of plastic folders in order to reduce the usage of plastic in any official transactions in the university.
4- The university also has a policy of reducing the use of plastic bags and supports their replacement with bags made of environmentally friendly components.

5_The university heads towards digital transformation progressively to reduce the paper-based official transactions by launching platforms that allow those transactions such as SIS and HR platforms. The university has also launched the blended education portal, which aim to manage the education process digitally.
Paper Recycling
The University of Basrah has cooperated with the Ministry of Industry and Minerals / Basrah Paper Factory for receiving and recycling all paper waste that was used by all colleges and centers in the university. Then, that factory sends the new paper to the university. This step is one of the important plans in the university to reduce the use of paper.
Plastic Recycling
The university of Basrah / College of Engineering owns a unit for treating and recycling plastic waste, and the university seeks to support this project and similar projects to convert plastic waste into useful materials for limited uses. The university also launched small projects to use plastic water bottles for decoration and to raise awareness of the need to reduce its use. prss here
