The environmental team of University of Basrah held a consultative session with representatives of the United Nations World Food Program in Iraq.
During the session, the impact of water scarcity in Basrah governorate on food security and damages to the agricultural and livestock sector was discussed, in addition to the significant increase in desertification in the governorate in recent years. Possible mechanisms to reduce these damages through projects that could be adopted by the World Food Program in the governorate were also discussed.
Dr. Muhammad Nasser Fares confirmed that the environmental team at University of Basrah, along with the rest of those concerned with environmental affairs in the governorate, formed a work cell to develop plans and projects that serve these sectors in coordination with the United Nations World Food Program in Iraq.
