University of Basrah convened the first conference about smart cities entitled "Smart Basrah"

University of Basrah/College of Engineering, in cooperation with ALmaaqal University, has convened the first conference on smart cities titled "Smart Basrah". The conference aims to find the appropriate and smart methods to transform Basrah province into a smart city from commercial, industrial, security, and agricultural perspectives along with determining the appropriate strategies for such a purpose. the conference also discussed how to construct the optimal infrastructure required to build the intelligence application for a smart city,  where many lectures were delivered, many research papers related to smart cities along with their applications and renewable\sustainable energy were discussed.

The conference also addressed how to sustain smart cities and add Renewable energy technologies that are used to reduce and avoid the problems of global warming.The conference witnessed the presence of Professor Chris Gatwin from Sachs University in Britain, who discussed a valuable lecture entitled “Smart Digital Cities”  through which he discussed how to transform the city from being a traditional city to one that relies on smart digital transformation in all its aspects .The conference also witnessed the participation of the Ministerial Coordinator of E-Learning, Dr. Amer Salim Al-Amir, who gave a lecture entitled “Smart Education Methods.” The conference also included a wide participation of researchers from the College of Engineering at the University of Basrah through several lectures. Dr. Salman Hashem gave a valuable lecture on sustainable energy, another lecture on The pillars of smart cities was delivered by Dr. Jawad Radi. The researcher at the College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Basrah, Dr. Saif Ali, gave a valuable lecture on the security of smart cities.

Moreover, This conference is considered as the first building block towards exporting artificial intelligence applications and their infrastructure which are currently available in the faculties of the University of Basra towards the city of Basrah.
